All Skill Builders are 90 minute classes for $25 and utilizing 50 rounds of ammo when a live-fire component is included. Although all skill builders are open to any students with minimal safe handgun handling skills, the Skill Builders on the second Wednesday of each month are typically more geared to basic skills and are conducted from the shooting bays (Basic). The Skill Builders that are on the fourth Wednesday night of each month are typically are conducted ‘on-the-range’ in the open in front of the shooting bays (Advanced). the schedule of Skill Builders for June-August 2020 are listed below.

Indy Arms provides a great way to build your skills with handguns without breaking the bank; bi-monthly Classroom/live fire skill builders! Each 1.5 hour session will focus on a small group of hand gun skill taught by an Indy Arms senior instructor. Each skill builder is focused on a specific defensive/tactical/ accuracy skill set. Skill Builders will be taught on the range using dry and live fire practice for a cost of $25.00. Students should bring required gear (see specific skill builders) and price does NOT include ammo. Skill Builders are on the 2^nd (Basic) and 4^th (Advanced) Wednesday of each month from 7pm-8:30pm.

Participation will be tracked and certificates will be awarded for successful completion of multiple Skill Builder sessions: Attend any 6 or more different Skill Builders for a Certificate of Achievement, 9 or more for a Certificate of Distinction, and attend 12 or more for a Certificate of Mastery.

Most Skill Builders will be practiced from low ready; however, a reliable outside the waistband (OWB) holster can be used for any skill builders.

Skill Builders Currently Offered Include (check training calendar for specific dates):

1. The Draw and Shoot /Don’t Shoot: Techniques for safely drawing your firearm will be discussed and target engagement, verbal commands, and quick decision making will be focused on. Gear: Handgun, Inside or Outside the Waistband holster, 50 rounds of ammo
2. Shooting from Cover: Techniques for using and understanding the role of cover and concealment in a defensive shooting will be covered. Gear: Handgun, 50 rounds of ammo
3. Defending Occupied Motor Vehicle: Simulating the skills needed to safely and effectively defend yourself from your occupied vehicle. Gear: Handgun, Inside or Outside the Waistband holster, 50 rounds of ammo
4. Qualification Shooting: Learn about the qualification tests many law enforcement and security personnel have to pass and then shoot a qualification course. Gear: Handgun, 50 rounds of ammo
5. Multiple Target Engagement and Speed Reloads: Various drills focused on multiple attackers paired with the techniques to quickly reload your gun. Gear: Semi-Automatic Handgun, 1 or more OWB magazine pouches, 2 magazines, 50 rounds of ammo
6. Accuracy Shooting: Techniques for increasing accuracy and improving your scores in competition will be practiced. Gear: Handgun, 50 rounds of ammo
7. Pepper Spray: The use and techniques for employing pepper spray in a self-defense encounter will be covered as well as a practice session with inert sprays. Gear: none
8. Offhand Shooting and Wound Simulation Shooting: Practicing with one handed and non-dominant hand shooting. Reloading and malfunction clearances with non-dominant hand. Gear: Semi-Automatic Handgun, Inside or Outside the Waistband holster, 1 or more OWB magazine pouches, 2 magazines, 50 rounds of ammo
9. Failure to Stop Drill and Malfunction Clearances: Focusing on changing point of aim when center mass shots are not resulting in a stoppage. Additionally, the three primary stoppages experienced with semi-automatic handguns will be demonstrated and practiced. Gear: Semi-Automatic Handgun, 2 Magazines, 50 rounds of ammo
10. Shooting while Moving: Engaging targets while moving will be the focus on this skill builder. Gear: Handgun, Inside or Outside the Waistband holster, 50 rounds of ammo
11. Moving Target Engagement: Defensively engaging moving targets will be practiced. Gear: Handgun, 50 rounds of ammo
12. GSSF Specific Accuracy Training. Practice with the typical GSSF course of fire for indoor competition. Gear: Semi-Automatic Handgun, 50 rounds of ammo, multiple magazines

Prerequisites: Students should have a basic understanding of firearms safety having completed Indy Arms’ Introduction to Handgun, Basic Defensive Handgun, or similar course.

Course Completion: Students completing six or more Skill Builders at any time will receive a certificate

NOTES:

• Handguns may be rented for $10.00; rental handguns must use ammunition purchased from Indy Arms
• Students under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult (ask about a youth discount for training classes)
• Students arriving more than 10 minutes after the designated start time may not be allowed into class and may need to reschedule

***Please come in 15- 20 min early to complete the necessary check in process before any training class. This will give us time to verify your range waiver at the counter. This is also the time to buy ammo, Holster, Hearing protection, anything you will need for the class. Classes start promptly and we don’t want you to miss anything.***
