Staff Trainers

Indy Arms is proud of our staff instructors who currently teach our First Steps, Firearms Safety, Gun Cleaning for Beginners, Introduction to Handguns, Introduction to Rifle, Introduction to Shotgun, Concealed Carry Seminar, and NRA Basic Pistol courses.  These courses have been designed to provide the highest quality information in a safe and welcoming environment and serve as the doorway to all of our more advanced classes.  All staff instructors are certified as instructors by the NRA and/or Tactical Training Associates and dedicated to providing excellence in firearms education.

CERTIFIED STAFF INSTRUCTORS

DAN SCALF

Dan is a NRA and TTA Certified Instructor, Training Coordinator and Shift-lead at Indy Arms. Dan’s experience with firearms began with his service in the U.S. Army, Indiana Army National Guard, and U.S. Army Reserves primarily serving as a Radio Operator-Maintainer and a Recruiting and Retention NCO.  His focus on becoming proficient with handguns started in 2019. Dan is passionate about teaching people first and foremost how to be safe when handling firearms while enabling them to become their own First Responder. When not at Indy Arms, Dan has an Associates degree in Culinary Arts has worded as the chef for IndyCar Panther Racing team.

JIM GIBBONS

Jim is a Certified Instructor (NRA and Tactical Training Associates) and Salesperson at Indy Arms. He has taken several classes including the NRA Basic Pistol Class, to Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute’s Handgun 1 under Steve “Yeti” Fisher. His favorite part of training is seeing his students that fall in love with shooting, and coming back to the store for more training and practice. Jim loves shooting all types of firearms, from his handguns to his AR15s. His personal goal is to continue his own training add to his teaching certifications, and continue teaching classes at Indy Arms.

MARK HEITZMAN

Mark is a Certified Instructor (NRA and Tactical Training Associates) and Shift-lead at Indy Arms. Mark started shooting at 8 years of age and was originally trained in the use of firearms in the Junior ROTC in High School.  Mark is fascinated by all types of firearms and their mechanics.  He enjoys instructing classes as the more he learns the more he wants to share that knowledge.  Additionally, with each class he teaches he furthers his own understanding of Indy Arms’ customers and their needs.   Mark also enjoys competing and is especially proud of his GSSF perfect scores with his pocket G42.

ALICE KESSINGER

Alice is a TTA Certified Instructor, Co-lead of the Indy Arms chapter of The Well-Armed Woman (TWAW) and a Salesperson at Indy Arms. Alice began shooting at 62 and loves that shooting is open to men and women and people of any age.  As an instructor, Alice enjoys sharing what she has learned about firearms with others.  She especially enjoys seeing students transform from those first few cautious minutes in the classroom to finding confidence by the end of a class. Alice especially enjoys teaching the ladies only classes, as well as assisting the women that come into the store to buy a firearm for the first time.  When not at Indy Arms Alice has volunteered in Nicaragua for the last 18 leading U. S. teams focused on empowering women.
